In today's world, reading isn't just about words—it's about opening doors. It's how we learn, connect, and grow. Embracing reading isn't just a skill; it's an adventure waiting to happen, leading us to new horizons and endless possibilities.
During the 2023-2024 school year, I worked with an amazing first grader who was identified as not meeting the benchmark for the PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) test that is administered to K-3 students in Virginia.
With the aid of tools provided by The Dyslexperts, the student participated in 45-minute tutoring sessions twice a week from September to May.
The student's progress summary showcases remarkable growth in various areas over the academic year.
Here are the notable improvements:
Total Spelling Score: Increased from 7 to 28, a remarkable gain of 21 points.
Preprimer Word List: Improved from 5 to 19, demonstrating a gain of 14 points.
Primer Word List: Started mid-year with a score of 10, concluding with 12, indicating a gain of 2 points.
First Grade Word List: Achieved a score of 8 by the year's end.
Letter Sounds: Increased from 21 to 26, reflecting a gain of 5 points.
Entry Level Summed Score: Expanded from 33 at the start of the year to 93 by the conclusion, marking an impressive gain of 60 points.
This progress underscores the effectiveness of the consistent tutoring sessions in enhancing the student's reading and spelling skills, further supported by the tools provided by The Dyslexperts.
